Once again Camp Unalayee will be offering families an opportunity to visit the camp and spend family time camping in a cooperative community atmosphere.
Where: At Camp Unalayee - Meet at the Northeast Wilderness gate of the Trinity Alps.
When: August 18th to August 23rd.
Who: Campers from age 4 months to 80 years young
What: As much activity or leisure as a camper would want.
Our own Tom Halderman with teach a certified course in Wilderness
First Aid to all interested.
Unalayee's
program is centered on simple outdoor living. There is no electricity
or indoor plumbing. Our showers are solar. We cook and eat family style.
Everyone helps with the chores. The program is very low key. We provide
meals, program equipment and the facilities. You will be sleeping under
the stars.
Basic camping equipment needed are: ground cloths, sleeping pads, tents, tarps, rainwear, flashlights, day packs, water bottles, sunscreen, chapstick, warm clothes, sturdy shoes, etc.
Unalayee has sleeping bags, sleeping pads and backpacks to loan if needed.
If you would like to take an overnight hike with your family we will outfit you with food and backpacking equipment. The family overnight hike is optional. Many alpine lakes are perfect for family day hikes.
Equipment List: At
Family Days you will be camping. So think about bringing all the things
that you will need for camping in the mountains. Although August weather
is usually warm and dry, we have had an occasional and dramatic mountain
storm that brings rain, hail and cold weather. The general rule of
thumb in the mountains is: Be prepared for all types of weather.
